The Chiltern Society aims to conserve and protect the natural beauty, environment and heritage of the Chilterns. The charity takes positive action via its campaigning work to protect the landscape and rivers, and also its practical work of maintaining footpaths, conservation work in woods and commons and organising a busy programme of weekly walks and cycle rides. With over 6,700 members, and 500 volunteers the Chiltern Society is one of the largest environmental groups in England directly associated with the conservation of one of the country's most distinctive protected landscapes. The charity relies on the income from membership to fund its activities. It receives no grant funding for its activities.
